Final laser cut model photo

Final render

Renders

I experimented with lots of different lighting, backgrounds and materials while working through the rendering process. I decided to go with a clear shell that corresponds with my acrylic skeletal like layers in my model, and a black inside to represent the organics of the insect.

Sketch models

I prefered the 4th model out of all 5 because it gives the model movement/appearance that the incect is in mid flight instead of being stationary, which insects rarely are. Also it spaces the layers well to give it depth.

Development/Deciding what sketch to work with and works best with my precidents.

I went though some of my previous renders from the last project to find out which one had the the most interesting sections and would best to work with. I decided to go with the third one; it has the best symetry between my two precidents, has enough flexibility to experiment with different styles of models and each section works nicely together to show a pleasing asthetic.

I scaled down each layer into one "Ai" file, then printed it out, traced it and at the same time fixing up any overlapping lines. I then scanned it back into the computer and formatted it to be ready for laser cutting.

Precidents

I wanted to work around the idea of giving my model an essence of an incect or the horned beetle to be more specific. Also combining this with bones that have holes e.g. the coccyx to give an interesting exoskeleton to the insect model.
